The next time I cry about golf it will only be with joy. It’s not worth crying over golf for any other reason. After all, it’s only a game – Rory McIlroy

Three off the Tee - 18 March 2025 Newsletter

Hello there

Rory capped off a fantastic sports-filled St. Patrick’s Day weekend by defeating JJ Spaun in a playoff to secure his second victory at The Players at TPC Sawgrass. McIlroy triumphed in a three-hole playoff to claim his second win of the season. Bring on Augusta & that green jacket!

A big thank you to England, the Blues, the Gunners, and - dare I say - the Magpies for the weekend’s smiles! 😀

With 52 meals booked for this evenings jazz, it promises to be another great evening. Ben & guests will be here again on Wednesday, 14th May. If you think that jazz is 'not your thing', please give it a try and I can guarantee you will be pleasantly surprised and leave smiling.

Kevin Mellor captured the lull between the hail, rain, sleet. A different view of the clubhouse and some beautiful light. Thank you Kevin.

Members Question

You are invited to send any questions in that you would like one of the Management Committee members to answer. Often a committee member is approached on the putting green with a question that might not relate to their area of knowledge. This is a way for you to ask those questions.

Q. Now that we are able to enter club competitions and submit supplementary cards for handicap purposes please could you clarify the situation of relief from all paths on the golf course. None of the paths in question are fully defined, therefore affording the possibility of individual interpretation.

A. In next week's newsletter.

Hole in One

After shooting 78 in the first round of The Players Championship, Justin Thomas went on to have one of the best rounds of his professional career on Friday, shooting a 10-under 62 in the second round of The Players Championship. With the Augusta teasingly close, did you know what was the biggest comeback at the Masters?

Jack Burke Jr., a 33-year-old pro who hadn't won a tournament since 1953, went into the final round trailing 24-year-old amateur Ken Venturi by eight shots. In the biggest Masters comeback ever, Burke shot a 71 to beat Venturi, who shot an 80, by one stroke.

Happy golfing everyone,

Karen
