BROCTON HALL GOLF CLUB
Three off the Tee - 18 February 2025 Newsletter
Hello there
First a reminder that today is the deadline for the early member subscription early payment draw. To qualify, payments must be received in full by the close of business today.
Good luck to those in the draw (this will take place on Thursday, 21st February).

Last Thursday our 2024 Lady Captain, Julia Nichols, handed over a cheque for £8950.00 to Guide Dogs. Julia chose Guide Dogs as her Charity for 2024 and together with the ladies section at BHGC held some wonderful fund raising events.
Also in the photo is our own Chris Spratt with her brood guide dog and her puppy in training. The final fundraising figure of £8950 means that we can name two puppies and we can support a puppy through the puppy raising stage.
Congratulations to Julia and all those who helped her and a big thank you to Guide Dogs for all the work they do.

Members Question
You are invited to send any questions in that you would like one of the Management Committee members to answer. Often a committee member is approached on the putting green with a question that might not relate to their area of knowledge. This is a way for you to ask those questions.
Q. In Three off the Tee of 21st January a question was raised by a member concerning the way Officers, particularly the Captain, are chosen in the club. Referring to the current system as "the old pals act".
In it's response the Management Committee stated the following:-
"A selection process for officers and directors, including a nominations committee for each made up of past officers and directors was proposed as part of the new rule changes put to the EGM on 6th January. The rule changes were not adopted by the membership"
It went on to state:-
"that this may well be one of the changes proposed to members again for members to decide"
Can I ask why is it that the Management Committee are choosing this route for taking much needed action with regards to this particular change?
There is nothing in our current rules that states how officers are selected/chosen. Therefore to adopt and put in place a process that is objective and transparent, as opposed to one that is seen as subjective and opaque, is wholly within the delegated powers that the Management Committee currently have and is surely something that they should be getting on with rather than stating that it is a rule change decision that needs member approval.
Please manage and not equivocate.
A. The Management Committee will be examining the different aspects of the proposed governance changes, including the establishment of a Nomination Committee, in more detail over the next couple of months. The initial Management Committee meeting, held in early February, was focused on forming the Committee and Subcommittees. We will keep members updated and arrange additional meetings to discuss these matters further.

Hole in One
The local pastor decided to skip church one Sunday morning and go play golf. He told his assistant that he wasn't feeling well and drove to a golf course in Birmingham so nobody would recognise him.
He teed off the first hole. a huge gust of wind caught his ball, carried it an extra hundred yards and dropped it right in the hole, for a 450 yard hole in one.
An angel looked at God and said ''What did you do that for?''
God smiled and said ''Who is he going to tell'' 🙂

Happy golfing everyone,
Karen
