BROCTON HALL GOLF CLUB

Three off the Tee - 4 January 2025 Newsletter

Hello there

It certainly was a great weekend sporting wise for me (although not on the rugby front) and Rory's win certainly topped it off. Rory finished with a six-under 66 to win on 21 under par and a two-shot victory over his good friend Shane Lowry. This was his 27th victory on the PGA Tour - and the first at the iconic Pebble Beach course.

Welcome and congratulations to Brocton Hall Golf Club's new Officers! Lady President Mary Robertson, Lady Captain Jenny Bell, Captain Richard Gee and President Roger Edwards.

Wishing you all a a fantastic year ahead! May it be filled with success, growth, and memorable moments as you inspire the club to even greater achievements. Best of luck in all your endeavours!

Congratulations to Simon Bright who scored a Hole-In-One on the 3rd hole on Saturday!

Please come and support our wonderful Lady Captain and Lady President and Lady Vice Captain Delia Fowler on their Drive In tomorrow at 9:50am. Before the Drive in you will have your last chance to guess the combined distance of all three drives. Hot drinks will be available in the clubhouse if you have a wait between the Drive In and your tee time.

Thank you to all the members who have already paid their subs! If you have any queries regarding your invoice please let me know. Any questions on signing up to Golf Credit, please contact Jim Evans - jim.evans@golfcredit.co.uk. Please remember that any member signing up to Golf Credit must do so by the 28th February.

Members Question

You are invited to send any questions in that you would like one of the Management Committee members to answer. Often a committee member is approached on the putting green with a question that might not relate to their area of knowledge. This is a way for you to ask those questions.

Q. Some time ago we had an agronomist come to look at why the fairways on the 5th/6th, 12th,14th and 18th we're getting flooded.

We members have not been informed of the results of his visit, is there any update on his findings.

Hole in One

Pebble Beach - Did you know:

  • The course was built for free by amateur golfers Jack Neville and Douglas Grant. They didn't want to lose their amateur status by accepting payment.
  • The greens at Pebble Beach are small, averaging 3,500 square feet, making them the smallest on the PGA Tour.
  • The endangered California Sea Otter lives in Stillwater Cove, off the 18th hole.
  • The famed Lone Cypress Tree on 17-Mile Drive—made famous by photographers and visitors over the decades—is 200 to 300 years old.
  • April is seal pupping month at Pebble Beach. Each year, mother seals return to Fanshell Beach along 17-Mile Drive to give birth.

Happy golfing everyone,

Karen
